Busy! Busy! Busy!

Well summertime has flown by. South swells, trips back east. I will need a few weeks to catch up. I finished my new Keel Fish that I made myself. Big thanks to Russell Hoyte for being a awesome teacher. And Moonlight Glassing, Elliot & Marlin for the Bamboo fins and glass job. Now to get ready to DJ Camp Hollywood!

Post Lasik 2 weeks.

Had a great time last weekend with Tina in Leucadia. It was a busy Saturday! Got up early to join the " One Surf Fly" fishing tournament. It was a great showing. At least 70 contestants with Brian Hasting winning with a total of 17 fish. Then to Carlsbad to Legoland. Didn't really have any great exspectations but it was really fun. The lego San Francisco and New York was awesome! Then to JP St.Pierre's new Surf Shop " Surfy Surfy".It was a amazing crowd and nice to support JP. I took some shots of the new shop. They had awesome ukes for sale! I want one! How are my eyes? Well they seem to get a little dry and tired if I don't use my drops every hour. They get really red at times but the artificial tears really help. I'm really ready to get in the water but I need to wait a few more weeks.

Frankie Manning

So today is the one year anniversary of the death of one of our most treasured American dancers, Frankie Manning. There has been no other dancer that has truly and without fail inspired me to keep dancing. No matter what I'm into , surfing, fishing or something so contra to dance that when I see video footage of him dancing, it reminds me of the gift of dance that will always remains inside of me. Watch the video clip of "Hellszapoppin". I've seen it a thousand times and every single time I'm just amazed at the just pure talent of this guy. He has the magic of musicality that we will never see again. He thinks he had a great deal of coming out of retirement to teach, well we got the very best part of the bargain.

Lasik works!

So I had my surgery and man the results are incredible! The process itself wasn't personally the most fun but now that it's over, I'm really glad I did it. I have never really been that crazy about touching my eyes or looking at bright lights and this describes most of what the surgery is.It's not painful due to the numbing drops they place in but watching your eye lens being peeled back is a little intense. The whole thing lasted 2-3 minutes a eye. After sleeping off the Valium they give you for sedation, the next morning was so cool to see everything look so sharp and clear.Post op visit the next day showed my vision was back at 20/20. Now I'm putting drops in ever hour to help the healing process. Three weeks until I'm back in the water. Here is a shot from Yollies cafe in Ventura that had Stompy Jones playing for our swing dancers.

Countdown to Lasix

Well it's almost time. Two hours to *Zap* time and have to admit I'm trying not to be too nervous. But I have been reassured that that it will be fine and I will love the results. More on the lasix procedure later. Here is a pic of my custom stripping basket that I use for fly fishing in the surf.

Spring Storms.

So our little spring storm continues from yesterday; it just seems to spread out over three days. More of gusty winds than rain. What does it mean? Well the ocean water temperatures will remain chilly again staying in the mid fifties. Keep the booties and hood handy with the full suit for a few more days. 24 hrs. to go until surgery my eye surgery and I can't decide if I'm excited or freak out that vision is going to change. I'm hoping for the best. I have all my drops ready and my sleep mask for at night so I don't accidentally rub my eyes. It's go time! Being able to read the waves will be awesome! So as I turn around and see the storm clouds run into the mountains from my living room, I look forward to tomorrow and a new set of eyes.

Day 1

Hello from Santa Barbara,Ca. It's been a rainy day up until 1pm when the sun came out and the west wind has started to push our little spring storm to it's next stop east. Have two days until my lasix surgery so no more surfing for what seems like long three weeks. But I do have a new board to ride as soon as I can get back out thanks to Russell Hoyte of Hoyte designs and Moonlight Glassing.
